We Need to Talk…

We need to talk romance.

I’m all about romance. I love romance. I read romance. I write romance.

I’ve always had a fascination with this genre and it started with my first Danielle Steel book when I was probably about 13 years old. As I grew up, I read everything from New York Times Bestsellers to Austen to Chopin. I love everything from the funny, spunky heroines in Susan Elizabeth Phillips work to the historical heroes and heroines in Outlander and Into the Wilderness. I love to sprinkle my reading with paranormal romance and horror, I’m a big fan of Dracula as well as Anne Rice’s work. So with all these muses I’ve spread my wings and written in several of these genres.

But I think the main reason I write romance is my mom. It was her favorite genre and I don’t think I remember a time when she wasn’t reading a book with an embracing couple on the cover. I don’t know if she devoured romance novels because it was something lacking in her own life and I can’t ask her since she passed when I was only twenty. I can say she inspired my love of words and encouraged me by taking me to the library weekly. So I guess you could say my writing is an ode to my mother and whatever she loved about falling in love!

This is my mom & I’m the cutie in the carriage!

With all that in mind, I’ve spent the beginning of the year working with my talented graphic artist to create a new website to showcase my work. I hope you’ll stop by and check out the results. Lot’s of wonderful pages for all my series. I can’t believe I’ve got four series going, my goal is to add another book in each series. If you’ve already read my work I’d love to hear your thoughts on where you’d like the characters and the series to go, I’m open to any and all suggestions, so leave me a comment on my contact page. I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Hello Elizabeth,

I’m not really a romance reader, and that is reflected in my funny attempts of writing up romantic scenes! 😀
I can see where your love for romance came from – I’ve got a story like that about my love for mysteries and detective stories. It’s interesting to see the background of an author as it explains many things of his/her writing!

    1. Hi Stefania,
Thanks for stopping by! Glad you appreciated the background information, so maybe it isn’t always about where you’re going but about where you’ve been…LOL! Happy writing! E

  2. “the main reason I write romance is my mom. It was her favorite genre” – wonderful sentiment reflecting and encapsulating all of why you love the whole range of romantic genres! Wonderful pic of your mom, you & your sister too, very nice! 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping by Felipe! Yep, it’s all moms fault! The little girl next to me is my aunt, she’s only five years older than me so I can see why you thought she was my sister! LOL! Happy reading, writing & reviewing, E

  3. I’m not a big romance reader, but I’m a huge fan of love and reading about it. What could possibly be more important in our lives? And what I find most touching about romance authors, since I know quite a few, is what a close relationship they have with their readers. That’s a love story in and of itself.

    1. We romance authors do have wonderful, dedicated readers and you’re exactly right our relationship is like an epic love affair! Thanks for stopping over Victoria, appreciate your support!
      Happy writing week,
      Elizabeth Marx

    1. Thanks for stopping by Hunter, it was a lot of work getting it together but it turned out well. Now I need some SEO work. Have to hunt someone down!

    1. Vanessa I’m with you a great story without a nugget of romance just doesn’t work for me, I’ll settle for a tease but its got to have a bit. I love the show Black Sails or I did until I realized they refused to add some romance, they have plenty of sex but no longing, it’s all about which pirate can make the best deal! E

  4. From one romance author to another, love is captivating and meaningful. People search and search for the love of their lives. You’re site is awesome.

    1. Thanks for stopping over PJ, glad for the support & happy you enjoyed checking things out in my neck of the woods!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Lisa. I don’t have a lot of photos of my mom so it’s one of my favorites. E

  5. I like the old fashioned romance. Whether it’s a mystery or thriller, I want some romance in a book. It gives added flavor and an oomph to the story. Good luck on all your series from an author with one lone book.

    1. Thanks Susanne, I know you’ll get to a 2nd book soon. The more you write the more you’ll have to offer an audience. Happy writing week! E

    1. Thanks for stopping by Travis! I think the sex was implied with the scantily clad bodies on the covers of all my mom’s books. LOL!
